## The release

Habitation Velier 83 Islands 2021 is the first Habitation Velier from Vanuatu, released alongside a Fiji rum as the range's first two expressions from the South Pacific. It is a limited edition of 1,500 bottles, exclusive to La Maison du Whisky (LMDW). 83 Islands is the first and only rum distillery in Vanuatu.

- Palate: elegant, complex — persimmon, guava, medicinal and camphor notes, peach, nectarine
- Finish: broad, silky — floral, vegetal, tannic, rum baba, cardamom, cumin, red fruit, fresh cane juice

## About Habitation Velier

Habitation Velier was created in 2015 by Luca Gargano of Velier, often called the godfather of independently bottled premium rum. It is an educational range devoted exclusively to pot still rums. Each release is developed with the distillery and is a world first for that distillery. Labels show a drawing of the still plus the distillation method, vintage, ageing, angels' share and ester or congener levels. Rums are bottled at barrel proof with no sugar, caramel or other additions.

The range includes rums from Hampden, Worthy Park, Long Pond and Monymusk (Jamaica), Foursquare and Mount Gay (Barbados), Port Mourant (Guyana), Rhum Rhum (Marie-Galante), Papa Rouyo (Guadeloupe), Distillerie de Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Savanna (La Réunion), Takamaka (Seychelles), Mhoba (South Africa), Privateer (United States) and now 83 Islands (Vanuatu).

## The Gargano Classification

1. Pure Single Rum — distilled 100% in a batch pot still at a single distillery. Habitation Velier bottles only this category.
2. Single Blended Rum — a blend of pot still and traditional column still rum from a single distillery.
3. Rum — distilled in a traditional column still.
4. Industrial Rum — distilled in a modern multi-column still.
